Nickel-Base Diffusion Bonding
Solid-state joining process for high-temperature nickel alloys where simultaneous application of temperature and pressure induces atomic diffusion across the joint interface to form a cohesive bond.
Diffusion welding of nickel-based alloys runs without filler material. You bring the clean, flat surfaces together under pressure and heat the whole thing in vacuum or under shielding gas. This way, atoms migrate across the joint surface and a material-bonded connection is created. The process is suitable for high-temperature resistant parts where you don't want a weld seam in the classic sense. If you use too much pressure or heat, the component deforms. If it's too little, you don't get a proper bond. The surfaces must be absolutely clean and free of grease, otherwise no diffusion.
