Salt Bath Nitriding

Thermochemical diffusion process for introducing nitrogen and carbon from a cyanide-containing molten salt to enhance sliding properties and corrosion resistance.

In salt bath nitriding, the surface receives nitrogen and carbon in a cyanide-containing melt. That makes it more wear-resistant and improves sliding properties. If temperature or time aren't right, the layer becomes uneven and the effect is lost. You have to keep an eye on the melt and check the bath composition regularly, then it works.
