Controlled Atmosphere Furnace Brazing
Furnace brazing under shielding gas is an oxygen-free heat treatment in which metals are brazed in a furnace with nitrogen or hydrogen. This prevents reactions with oxygen and improves brazing quality.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The metal surface is heated in an oxygen-free environment (nitrogen or hydrogen). This prevents the metal from reacting with oxygen and avoids oxidation. The temperature and time determine the soldering quality.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Without shielding gas the metal can oxidize, which leads to poor soldered joints. Oxygen reactions can also hurt the strength of the joint. An insufficient shielding gas volume or faulty gas supply can cause these problems.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use a furnace with oxygen-free shielding gas (nitrogen or hydrogen). Make sure the gas volume is sufficient and the supply is stable. Keep the temperature constant and monitor the soldering time precisely. Use suitable flux to ensure a homogeneous joint.
