Optical Arc Position Monitoring
Optical arc position monitoring uses cameras with built-in filters to analyze the arc and correct torch position to tenths of a millimeter. This ensures accurate seam placement and avoids thermal distortion.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The cameras capture the arc emitted during welding. Integrated filters let only certain wavelengths through to analyze the arc shape precisely. On this basis a control system corrects the torch position to a tenth of a millimeter.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Inaccurate joint placement can lead to heat distortion, which in turn causes porosity and cracks in the material. Arc position monitoring prevents such defects by continuously monitoring and adjusting the torch position.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use cameras with integrated filters developed specifically for arc analysis. Make sure the cameras are correctly calibrated and have a clear view of the arc. The control systems should be checked and serviced regularly so they work optimally.
