Orbital TIG Pipe Welding

A mechanized arc welding process where the torch orbits the pipe fully automatically on a closed track. It ensures maximum radiographic and pressure integrity in piping systems.

Orbital TIG welding means: the torch runs mechanically on a guide rail around the pipe. The arc travels evenly around the joint, giving a clean, consistent weld without you having to guide the torch by hand. It's mainly for pipe joints where you can't get to the outside or where the weld must be absolutely leak-tight and clean, e.g., for high pressures or X-ray inspection. You have to set the machine properly, otherwise the weld will be irregular. It's important that the pipe is really clean and grease-free before you put the head on. And you have to make sure the guide rail is firmly seated and the torch runs smoothly, otherwise it will get stuck or the weld will be crooked. Once you've set the parameters (current, rotation speed, wire feed) correctly for the pipe diameter and wall thickness, the thing runs through on its own.
