Organic Coating
Organic coatings are polymer-based layers on metal that block moisture and ions and prevent corrosion. They often contain corrosion-inhibiting pigments.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Organic coatings consist of polymer binders with special pigments. These pigments react chemically to attacks by acids and bases, which increases their corrosion resistance.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
If the coating is missing or poor, metals can be prone to corrosion. The coating must not be damaged during the welding process to ensure its effectiveness.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Before welding the metal, the coating should be carefully removed. This can be done by chemical or mechanical methods. After welding, the coating must be reapplied to restore the corrosion-resistant properties.
