Horizontal position (PC)
PC position is horizontal welding on a vertical wall, where the molten pool tends to flow downward. This requires precise torch control and can lead to porosity if not properly managed.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The PC position causes a strong pressure on the molten pool due to the horizontal welding direction. The molten metal is pulled downward, which can lead to porosity if the torch is not precisely aligned.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Incorrect torch positioning can lead to uneven hardening distribution and porosity in the weld. This increases the risk of cracking and reduces the strength of the joint.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Make sure the torch is aligned exactly horizontal to the welding direction. Keep the torch as far away as possible to ensure even melt distribution. Use a stable welding stand and check the correct gas supply.
