Pearlite Spheroidization Transformation
The globular shaping of the lamellar cementite structure through long-term annealing just below the eutectoid temperature to improve machinability.
During soft annealing, the structure is treated so that the lamellar cementite in the pearlite clumps into globular grains. This makes the steel softer and easier to machine. You anneal below the transformation temperature and then let the part cool slowly. If you cool too fast after welding, you get hard, brittle structure again and risk of cracking. So: anneal properly and cool down slowly, then the part stays workable.
