Phased Array Technology

Phased array technique is an advanced ultrasonic method with electronically controllable group transducers that can dynamically steer the sound beam. This enables detailed imaging of welds.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Phased array technology uses several small ultrasonic beams that can be combined to produce a single, strong, and precise sound beam. By electronically controlling the individual beams, the angle and focus of the overall signal can be dynamically adjusted.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This technique enables very precise and detailed inspection of welds, which is especially helpful for complex or fine structures. It can detect even the smallest defects or cracks that might be missed by other methods. However, there is a risk that this technique should only be used by qualified professionals, as improper handling can lead to inaccurate results.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

To successfully use phased array technology, follow these steps:

1. Use qualified ultrasonic technicians who are specifically trained in this technique.

2. Make sure the equipment is properly calibrated and regularly checked.

3. Use the correct settings for the angle and focus of the sound beam to get an optimal image.

4. Carefully document all steps and results.
