Phased Array Total Focusing Method Imaging

Phased array TFM imaging uses all element combinations of an array to focus every pixel in the inspection area. This increases spatial resolution and improves defect detection.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Phased array TFM imaging uses an array of ultrasonic transducers that are fired in different phases. This allows all element combinations to be used to focus on every pixel in the inspection area. This enables higher spatial resolution and improves detection of flaws.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

The high resolution enables more precise detection of microstructural flaws, cracks, and other defects. This leads to improved quality assurance and reduces the risk of faulty welds.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

To effectively use phased array TFM imaging, the transducers must be correctly set up and positioned. Inspection time depends on the size of the inspection area, but typically ranges from 10 to 30 minutes per part. It is important that the operator knows the system settings exactly and calibrates regularly.
