Phase Difference Evaluation

Phase difference evaluation shows how the metal changes into various physical states (phases) during the welding process. This is important for the strength and mechanical properties of the weld.

During welding, the metal goes through different structural states – from the liquid weld pool to the solid seam. How fast it cools determines the structure and thus the properties of the seam. If you cool too fast, the material becomes hard and brittle; if you cool too slowly, it becomes soft and coarse-grained. You have to control the cooling so that you get a tough and strong structure. You do this via the heat input and the choice of shielding gas.
