Phase Angle
The phase angle is the angle between the excitation current and the induced signal in eddy current testing. It helps distinguish conductivity and distances of metal structures.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The phase angle measures the time delay between the excitation current and the induced signal. This angle is measured in degrees and indicates how far the signal is shifted relative to the excitation.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
A correct phase angle is crucial for accurate crack or distance variation detection. An incorrect angle can lead to false alarms by failing to properly distinguish conductivity and distances. This can result in inaccurate inspection results and potential safety risks in construction or machinery industries.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
To set the phase angle correctly, set the excitation current frequency to 10 kHz. The phase angle should then be around 45 degrees. This value can be easily adjusted with the slider on the device. It is important to regularly check and adjust the angle as needed to ensure inspection accuracy.
