Pilgrim step method

A segmented welding method with staggered individual sections that reduces peak thermal loads in long welds.

The skip welding technique is a welding method for long seams where you divide the seam into short, staggered segments. You weld a piece, let it cool, and then weld the next piece next to it, so the heat doesn't build up too much. This avoids local overheating and reduces the risk of distortion or cracking in the structure, especially with sensitive materials. It's particularly useful when you have a long, continuous seam and the heat input would otherwise be too high. It's important to choose the sequence so that the segments are evenly distributed and enough time is left for cooling.
