Plasma transferred arc welding
A surfacing process utilizing a transferred plasma arc that allows precise feeding of powder filler material to deposit highly wear-resistant protective coatings.
PTA welding is a cladding process with a transferred plasma arc. Powder is fed into the arc and melted onto the workpiece. This gives you a dense, wear-resistant layer with low dilution into the base material. You must keep the distance between torch and workpiece clean, otherwise the layer becomes uneven. The powder and shielding gas must be dry and clean, otherwise you get porosity or lack of fusion. Watch for a stable arc and a uniform travel speed, then the deposit will be clean and crack-free.
