Plasma Arc Welding

An extension of TIG welding where the arc is mechanically constricted by a water-cooled nozzle, achieving extremely high energy densities and welding speeds.

Plasma welding is a process where the arc is constricted through a nozzle. This focuses the energy strongly, giving you a very high power density in a small area. It's fast and hot, but you have to watch out: due to the high speed, the material cools quickly, and you can get hard, crack-prone martensite. If you don't keep the part clean and dry, water from the nozzle cooling can also cause corrosion problems. Keep the cooling controlled and don't let the workpiece cool too fast, then it'll be fine.
