Plasma Transferred Arc Welding
Plasma arc surfacing uses an ionized plasma stream and shielding gas to precisely melt metal powder or wire. It is suitable for wear- and corrosion-resistant protective layers.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Plasma arc cladding generates an extremely hot arc that ionizes and melts metal powder or wire. The shielding gas stream protects the weld from contamination and promotes a clean deposit.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
This process allows high precision and a dense deposit of protective layers. It is especially good for highly loaded applications because it produces wear- and corrosion-resistant layers. However, missing shielding gas or insufficient ionization can lead to contamination and poor deposits.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use a plasma arc welder with a stable arc and a sufficiently strong shielding gas flow. Make sure the metal is clean and the powders or wires are correctly prepared. Adjust the deposition speed according to the material and application.
