Plasma Temperature Gradient
The temperature drop from the hot arc center to the cooler outer zones, which controls the thermal ionization density.
In plasma welding, the temperature distribution across the arc is not uniform – it's much hotter in the center than at the edges. If you don't keep the distance between the torch and the workpiece consistent, the weld will be uneven: the center can become too hard and prone to cracking, while the edges stay softer. So adjust the torch guidance and gas flow so that the arc stands calm and uniform. Then the heat spreads over the weld and you get a clean, low-stress result.
