Pneumatic Needle Peening

A mechanical post-treatment method in which spring-mounted needles strike the weld transitions at high frequency using compressed air. This leads to geometry improvement and the reduction of unfavorable tensile stresses.

Needle hammering is a fine thing for post-treating welds and relieving stress. You just run the needles evenly over the weld. But be careful not to apply too much pressure or stay in one spot too long, otherwise you'll mash the surface and do more harm than good. The weld must be clean and dry, then it'll work out.
