Porosity tendency

Propensity of the weld pool to trap gas bubbles (e.g., H, N, O) during solidification. It depends heavily on shielding gas coverage and material cleanliness.

Rust, scale, oil, grease, and paint are the main causes of pores – you only get rid of them by thorough cleaning. Damp electrodes or powder are just as bad, so always dry them properly as specified. If your shielding gas isn't right or there's draft, you'll get air in the weld pool and that causes bubbles. Keep the arc nice and short and give the weld pool time for the gas to escape before it solidifies. And use filler material with enough deoxidation, then you'll have less trouble there.
