Potential Drop Method
An electrical testing method for crack depth measurement by monitoring the electrical voltage drop across a zone with known current injection, where potential variations indicate crack depth.
Potential drop testing is a measurement method to determine crack depth. You send a constant current through the component and measure the voltage drop across the crack. The deeper the crack, the greater the voltage drop. It's sensitive: the measurement depends heavily on material composition and geometry. You have to calibrate the device cleanly and set the measurement points precisely, otherwise you'll get garbage. In practice, that means: prepare the surface first, then measure, and always verify the result.
