Specimen Geometry

The correct shape and size of a test specimen to ensure uniform test results. Inaccuracies lead to stress concentrations and erroneous measurements.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The specimen geometry determines the load distribution on the material during mechanical tests. An uneven shape can cause stress peaks, leading to erroneous measurement results.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Incorrect specimen geometry can lead to inaccurate stress distributions and thus to measurement errors in strength tests. This can lead to wrong conclusions about material quality and non-compliance with standards.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

Make sure that the test specimen is manufactured exactly to the specified dimensions. Always use standardized specimen geometries for mechanical tests and regularly check the precision of the measuring equipment.
