Process Chamber Atmosphere Control

The process chamber atmosphere control monitors and flushes the build area with inert gases like argon or nitrogen to prevent oxidation of the molten metal.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The controlled atmosphere in the process chamber flushes the build area with inert gases like argon or nitrogen. These gases bind oxygen and protect the molten metal from oxidation.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Without effective atmosphere control, metals oxidize quickly, leading to porosity and loss of strength. This can result in weak welds and cracks.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use argon or nitrogen for atmosphere control. Make sure the gas volume is sufficient to protect the entire build area. Continuously monitor the oxygen concentration and adjust the gas flow rate accordingly.
