Test specimen

A test object is the physical component or prepared specimen on which hardness tests or destructive material tests are performed. It must be representative of the entire material.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

A test specimen is a piece of material used for hardness testing or other destructive material testing. It should be representative of the entire material to provide accurate results.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

If a test specimen is not representative, hardness levels or other properties may be misjudged. This leads to inaccurate test results and can be dangerous, as important materials may not meet required standards.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To make a representative test specimen, choose a spot on the component that is typical of the whole material. Avoid specific areas like weld zones or heavily stressed surfaces. The size and shape of the specimen should meet the requirements of the testing method used.
