Test force dwell time

Test force duration is the time during which the full test force acts on the material to minimize viscous deformation effects. It is specified in testing standards to ensure consistent measurement results.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The test force dwell time refers to the duration during which a constant test force is applied to a material. This prevents viscous deformation that could occur under prolonged loading and lead to inaccurate measurements.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

A dwell time that is too short can result in insufficient penetration of the test force into the material, leading to incorrect measurement results and potential cracking. Conversely, a dwell time that is too long can cause viscous deformation, also leading to inaccurate measurements and potential damage to the material.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

The test force dwell time is specified in the relevant testing standards. For most materials, it ranges from 1 to 3 seconds. You must adhere to and monitor this time precisely to ensure correct measurement results. Use a chronometric timer to control the dwell time accurately.
