PTA Hardfacing

Surfacing technique using a plasma arc and alloy powders to produce extremely hard, corrosion- and wear-resistant surface layers.

PTA hardfacing is a plasma process where you feed alloy powder into the plasma arc to deposit a wear-resistant layer on the part. The powder melts and forms a metallurgical bond with the base material – that holds really well. It's important to choose the right powder for the job and set the distance and travel speed properly. If you go too hot or too slow, you can dilute the base material too much and the layer becomes softer than intended. Conversely, too little heat means no proper bond and the stuff flakes off. Make sure the surface is clean and free of grease before you start. Then hardness and adhesion will work out.
