Powder Morphology Analysis
Powder morphology analysis examines the shape, size, and surface of metal powders for optimal flowability. Spherical particles without satellites are ideal.
Physical-chemical mechanism of action
Powder morphology analysis deals with the microscopic examination of metal powders to determine their shape, size, and surface texture. Spherical particles have a low surface area per volume and can therefore come into better contact and bond.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
Powder morphology has a big influence on flowability. Non-spherical particles or particles with satellites can lead to uneven distribution and poorer bonding, which reduces the strength and toughness of the weld product.
Workshop practice & instructions
For optimal powder morphology:
• Use powder with spherical particles.
• Make sure the particle size distribution is homogeneous.
• Ensure there are no satellites or incompletely broken particles.
