Powder Recyclability Rate

The powder recycling rate is the proportion of unmelted metal powder that can be reused in the additive manufacturing process after reconditioning. It is limited by changes such as loss due to melting and chemical reactions.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The powder recycling rate is the percentage of metal powder that is suitable again for pressure welding or laser welding after the reprocessing step. This rate is influenced by various factors, including melt loss during printing and chemical reactions with ambient substances.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

A low powder recycling rate means that a larger portion of the powder is no longer suitable for manufacturing. This leads to increased material consumption and higher costs. Additionally, unmelted powder can remain in the weld and cause hardness or cracking.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To maximize the powder recycling rate, it is important to carefully check the powder's properties after the reprocessing step. This can be done through visual inspection and chemical analysis. A powder recycling rate of at least 80% is generally acceptable to ensure production efficiency.
