Local exhaust ventilation
Local exhaust ventilation is a flow-based capture system that removes welding fumes directly at the source. It minimizes the spread of contaminants into the hall air and depends on capture distance and flow velocity.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Point extraction uses a fan that draws air directly at the welding source. The fume is captured by a filter, preventing it from spreading into the surrounding area.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Without point extraction, welding fume can produce toxic gases like carbon monoxide, which are harmful to health. Air pollution can also impair vision and reduce production output.
Workshop Practice & Operating Instructions
To use point extraction effectively, position the fan so it captures the fume directly at the welding source. The distance between the fan and the source should be minimal (approx. 10-20 cm). The airflow velocity of the fan should be at least 5 m/s to capture the fume effectively.
