Ambient Air Monitoring Monitor for Welding Gases
A device for continuous measurement of carbon monoxide and oxygen in enclosed spaces during welding. It gives audible alarms at dangerous concentrations.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The ambient air monitoring device measures the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and oxygen (O2). Carbon monoxide is toxic and can be fatal at high concentrations. Too low oxygen concentration can endanger welding.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Carbon monoxide can be generated in the welding zone and is toxic. Too low oxygen concentration can lead to problems with gas flow and combustion of hydrocarbons, which can damage the weld. The device prevents these risks by alarming.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Install the monitor in the welding zone and calibrate it regularly. Set the alarm thresholds according to safety regulations (e.g., 25 ppm for carbon monoxide and at least 19.5 % for oxygen). Make sure the device is continuously on and checked.
