Recrystallization Kinetics
Time- and temperature-dependent progression description of nucleation and grain growth during thermal treatment of deformed materials, often modeled mathematically via Avrami equations.
If you put too much heat into welding, the structure gets a new grain. The material becomes softer and relaxes, but if you cool it too slowly or get too hot, the grain can become coarse and toughness suffers. Make sure heat input isn't unnecessarily high and don't let the part cool too fast or too slow – you need to feel that depending on the material. For critical steels, it helps to keep an eye on the interpass temperature, then the structure stays clean.
