Demagnetization
Demagnetization reduces residual magnetism in components after magnetic particle testing to prevent malfunctions in subsequent steps.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
After magnetic particle testing, small magnetic fields often remain in the material. Demagnetization neutralizes these by applying a controlled magnetic field in the opposite direction.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
High residual magnetism can cause malfunctions or cracks, especially in sensitive parts. If you don't reduce it, it can affect the quality of subsequent processing.
Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines
Use a demagnetizer with the right field strength and duration. The exact setting depends on the material and specific part shape. Make sure all magnetic fields are completely neutralized.
