Final Rupture Area

The final fracture zone is the area on a fracture surface that failed under sudden overload. It shows brittle or deformed structures.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The residual fracture surface forms under sudden mechanical loads that push the material beyond its stress limit. The material structure becomes more brittle and deformable.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

The residual fracture surface can lead to further cracks or failure if the material is not handled properly. It is especially important to control stresses in the weld zone and avoid any overload.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Use appropriate stress limiting when welding. Make sure the material is not overloaded. If residual fracture surfaces are suspected, carry out a detailed inspection and correct the welding parameters if necessary.
