Residual Magnetic Field Measurement

Residual magnetic field measurement measures the remaining magnetism on component surfaces after magnetic inspection. This ensures that limits for further manufacturing steps are met.

Physico-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Residual magnetic field measurement quantifies the remaining magnetism on components after magnetic testing. This is done using Hall probes that measure the magnetic field strength.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Too strong a residual magnetic field can cause problems during welding, such as magnetic arc blow or cracks. It is important to ensure that the magnetism remains below specified limits to ensure defect-free fabrication.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

After magnetic testing, the component surface is measured with a Hall probe. The measured magnetic field strength must be below the specified limits (e.g., 0.2 mT). If the magnetism is too high, additional demagnetization measures must be taken.
