Post-Brazing Stress Relieving
Heat treatment to reduce thermally induced residual stresses caused by differing coefficients of thermal expansion of the joined partners.
When welding, heat creates stresses in the material because the zones expand and contract differently. This can lead to distortion or cracks if you're not careful.
To get this under control, you anneal the parts after welding to relieve stress. That means you heat the part evenly in the furnace and then let it cool very slowly. This allows the structure to settle and internal stresses to dissipate.
How hot and how long depends on the material. Steel needs different temperatures than aluminum. And the slower the cooling, the better for the part. So don't rush it, otherwise you'll have distortion right back.
