Remaining wall thickness

Remaining wall thickness is the material thickness left after incomplete severing cuts or due to feed errors. It requires corrected processing.

Physical and chemical mechanism

Residual wall thickness occurs when the energy beam does not completely penetrate the underside of the part. This can happen due to incomplete cutting or insufficient energy input.

Metallurgical relevance & welding risks

Low residual wall thickness is a safety risk because it weakens the mechanical strength and reliability of the part. It can lead to wear, cracks, or failure.

Workshop practice & action items

Regularly check the residual wall thickness after cutting. If it is too thin, monitor the process and correct it if needed to ensure full penetration on the underside.
