Pipe vertical-up position

Pipe uphill position is a welding technique where the weld is made from bottom to top. This ensures full penetration of the pipe and prevents porosity.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The pipe vertical-up position ensures that the welding fumes penetrate the pipe evenly during cooling. This prevents pore formation and leads to a tight joint.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

With wrong handling, uneven penetration or pore formation can occur, which hurts the strength of the joint. Cooling too fast can also lead to hot cracks.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Make sure the pipe is firmly clamped and the weld runs from the lowest point upward. Keep a constant speed while welding and pay attention to even cooling. Use a shielding gas for optimal results.
