Rotating magnetic field welding
Rotating magnetic field welding stabilizes the arc through magnetic forces, leading to faster joints and improved quality.
Physico-chemical mechanism of action
The rotating magnetic field creates a stable environment for the arc by exciting electrons in the weld pool. This increases the efficiency of the joint and prevents instability.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
Stabilizing the arc leads to a more even heat distribution, resulting in better mechanical properties of the weld. However, an uneven magnetic field can cause stresses and cracks in the material.
Shop practice & instructions
Use a rotating magnetic field welding machine with a fixed field strength of at least 1 Tesla. Make sure the magnetic field is evenly distributed over the weld area and the arc length is kept constant. Uneven field distribution can cause stresses in the material, which can lead to cracks.
