Coated Welding Consumable
A welding consumable with a mineral coating that stabilizes the arc and facilitates alloying of the weld metal.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
The coated welding consumable consists of a stick electrode core surrounded by a mineral covering. This covering protects the core and prevents it from being consumed too quickly. It also stabilizes the arc by improving electrical conductivity.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
Arc stabilization provides better control over the welding process. This prevents cracks and burn-through and improves overall weld quality. Without proper covering, the core can be consumed too quickly, leading to erratic welding behavior.
Workshop Practice & Procedures
Use the coated welding consumable at high voltage settings and for special alloying tasks. Make sure the covering is not damaged and the electrode is correctly positioned. Fine control of voltage and current is required for optimal results.
