Back-Reflection Protection
Back-reflection protection blocks laser light reflected from the workpiece and protects the laser welding head from damage by highly reflective metals.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
The back-reflection protection system in laser welding heads absorbs or blocks the laser light reflected from the workpiece. This prevents the light from damaging the sensitive optics and the laser source.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Without back-reflection protection, highly reflective metals like copper can damage the laser system. This leads to interruptions in the welding process and increases maintenance costs. In extreme cases, it can cause permanent damage to the laser source.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Make sure the back-reflection protection system is always active and correctly adjusted. Regularly check the integrity of the protection system and replace defective parts immediately. When using highly reflective metals like copper, increase the back-reflection protection settings if necessary.
