Rutile flux-cored wire

Rutile flux-cored wire is a filler material with a rutile-based flux filling for arc welding. It produces a fast-freezing slag that stabilizes the weld pool.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Rutile flux-cored wire contains rutile (titanium oxide), which forms a fast and dense slag during arc welding. This slag protects the weld from ambient moisture and prevents porosity.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

The fast-solidifying slag of rutile flux-cored wire ensures a stable weld zone, improving joint quality. However, too much slag can lead to overfilling, which may block the weld pool and impair penetration.

Workshop Practice & Procedural Instructions

Use rutile flux-cored wire for arc welding when fast slag formation is required. Make sure the weld pool does not overfill. Optimal slag density can be achieved by adjusting wire diameter and feed speed.
