Rutile-Cellulosic Electrode
A stick welding consumable that combines the good ignition properties of rutile with the gas-forming properties of cellulose. This enables excellent vertical-down welding capability for pipelines.
Rutile-cellulose electrodes are classics for pipe welding, especially for overhead positions. The rutile content ensures a calm, soft arc and good wetting, while the cellulose burns and generates strong gas pressure that supports the weld pool in the root. You get deep penetration and a slag crater that is easy to remove. Make sure you don't store the electrode too dry, otherwise the arc will act up and you'll get porosity in the weld. When in doubt, rebake briefly, then it runs smoothly again.
