Oxygen Activation Additive for Shielding Gases

Oxygen activation additive in shielding gas reduces the surface tension of the weld pool and improves spray arc behavior.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The oxygen activation additive reduces surface tension in the weld pool through chemical reactions. This results in a calmer spray arc and improves control over the welding process.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

A low oxygen content (approx. 0.1-0.5 %) in argon shielding gas prevents porosity and increases weld toughness. Too high an O2 content can lead to embrittlement and hot cracking.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use argon shielding gas with an oxygen content of 0.3 % for optimal results. Make sure the shielding gas is mixed correctly and fed continuously. Monitor the temperature and the spray arc constantly.
