Oxygen-carbon dioxide mixed gas

Oxygen-carbon dioxide mixed gas stabilizes the arc and promotes a smooth metal transfer in MAG welding.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The oxygen-carbon dioxide mixed gas (approx. 75% oxygen, 25% carbon dioxide) is used in MAG welding. It stabilizes the arc through the high oxygen content and promotes a steady metal transfer through the carbon dioxide concentration.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Insufficient oxygen content can lead to an unstable arc, causing irregular weld bead structure and possible cracks. Too much carbon dioxide can slow the arc and weaken the start.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use an oxygen-carbon dioxide mixed gas with oxygen content of 75% and carbon dioxide content of 25%. Make sure the gas is properly distributed in the weld zone. Monitor arc stability and adjust gas flow as needed.
