Oxygen Segregation Tendency
The tendency of dissolved oxygen to accumulate at energetically favored crystal or phase boundaries. This leads to a reduction in cohesive strength.
Oxygen can accumulate at grain boundaries during welding and weaken the structure there. This makes the weld more brittle and prone to cracking. So make sure the weld doesn't cool too slowly, otherwise the grain will become coarse. Controlled cooling keeps the structure fine and the weld tough.
