Scanning Strategy in Powder Bed

The scan strategy in the powder bed defines the movement of the laser beam during powder welding. It controls heat input and minimizes thermal delays.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The scan strategy in the powder bed determines how the laser beam is moved through the powder layer. This influences the heat input and the local deformation of the material.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

An unsuitable scan strategy can lead to uneven deformation, thermal stresses and missing fusion. This raises the risk of cracks and destruction in the weld.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use a linear scan strategy with a speed of 1.5 to 3 mm/s for most applications. Keep a constant distance between the laser and the powder layer (usually 20 to 40 mm). Adjust the scan direction to the geometric shape of the weld part to ensure even heat input.
