Shear test

A shear test examines the shear strength of a material or a joint under shear loading. It is used for brazed and welded joints to determine their mechanical properties.

Physikalisch-chemischer Wirkmechanismus

A shear test is a mechanical test in which a material or a joint is tested under shear loading. The shear strength indicates how resistant the material is to shear forces.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

The results of a shear test are critical for the quality of brazed and welded joints. A shear value that is too low can lead to cracking or failure of the joint, while a value that is too high indicates that the material is oversized and may not be optimal for its application.

Werkstattpraxis & Handlungsanweisungen

To perform a shear test, the material or joint is loaded under controlled conditions in a special test device. The load is slowly increased until the joint fails. It is important to use the correct loading direction and proper measurement procedure to obtain accurate results.
