Wheel Blasting
Centrifugal blasting is a surface treatment process where abrasive media is thrown at the workpiece at high speed. It removes dirt and scale.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Centrifugal blasting uses rotating impeller wheels that fling abrasive media (such as silica) at high speed onto the workpiece. The high energy input provides intensive surface roughening and activation.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The intensive blasting can alter the surface structure, leading to increased toughness. Incorrect settings or overuse of abrasive media can lead to contamination and reduced weld strength.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use a speed of 10000 rpm for the impeller wheels and an abrasive content of 5-10 %. Make sure the workpiece is dry and the environment is protected to avoid contamination.
