Melting Equilibrium

Melting equilibrium is the state where the transformation rates between solid and liquid phases are equal. It is crucial for precise casting and remelting.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Melting equilibrium occurs when the number of molecules moving between the solid and liquid phases is equal. This happens at constant temperature and pressure.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

If mishandled, the melting equilibrium can be disturbed, leading to uneven distortion or non-uniformity in the structure. This can impair the strength and toughness of the weld.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To ensure melting equilibrium, temperature and pressure must be precisely controlled. When casting, uniform heating of the melt is required. When remelting, the cooling rate must be carefully regulated.
