Melt Flow Modifier

Melt index controller is an additive that influences the viscosity of melts or polymer filler materials. It optimizes flow behavior during joint filling and prevents porosity.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The melt index controller reduces the viscosity of the melt by bringing molecules into the liquid state. This allows smoother and more fluid filling of the joint.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

A too high melt index can cause too rapid solidification of the material, leading to cracks or hot cracks in the weld. Conversely, a too low index can lead to porosity and lack of leak tightness.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the melt index controller in the amount of 0.1 to 0.5 % of the total melt weight. Monitor the temperature and flow behavior during joint filling. Make sure the index is not too high to avoid cracks.
