Shielding Gas Flow Rate
Shielding gas flow rate determines the amount of gas delivered per minute and protects the workpiece from oxidation during welding.
Physical-chemical operating principle
The shielding gas flow rate indicates how much gas is injected in a given period of time. This flow ensures that the workpiece is protected from the surrounding atmosphere and oxidation is prevented.
Metallurgical significance & welding risks
If the flow rate is too low, the workpiece can still oxidize. This can lead to porosity and poor surface quality. If the flow is too high, it can cause overpressure in the weld and lead to undesired effects like distortion or gas pockets.
Workshop practice & instructions
For most steels, a flow rate of 10-20 liters per minute should be used. This value can be adjusted depending on the material and welding process. It's important to regulate the flow precisely and ensure that the gas is injected continuously.
